Caleb's 1st Birthday Party!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Caleb loves food, so I decided to make The Very Hungry Caterpillar his party theme.  It was fun making caterpillar-themed decorations and it was easy to choose finger foods to make easy party snacks!

The invitation for his party!

The sign on the door... "Inch inside to Caleb's 1st birthday party!"

His monthly pictures (1-11, since I hadn't done his 12 month one yet)

His high chair, all ready for him to enjoy his finger foods and cupcake! "I'm 1!"

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Cupcakes :)

We love him!

Praying over our ONE YEAR OLD! <3

I was probably more excited about the gifts than he was...

This picture gives you an idea of the chaos that happens at our family parties...
The kids are taking over!
Also, Caleb got 2 sets of Mega Bloks for his birthday and he LOVES them!!

Enjoying his cupcake :)
He isn't very enthusiastic about food, whether it's sweet or not.  He just likes and eats it all! He IS enthusiastic about eating in general.  He gets very angry if other people are eating and he isn't :)

All nakey and clean :)

Happy to be surrounded by some of his favorite people!

He's just SO cute! I can't stand it <3

His special "one" birthday shirt from Grandma Lonneville!
I love him and the joy (and craziness) that he brings to our family!

It's really hard to believe Caleb is 1 already.
It was great to have our families (and a few friends)
join us in celebrating his first year of life!

Twelve Months!

Caleb is 12 months old!

Weight: 24 lbs, 5 ounces. He gained almost a pound again this month! This is the 72nd percentile.

Length: 29 and 5/8 inches.  He grew 1/8 of an inch… This is the 45th percentile.

Head Circumference: I got this checked, but they didn’t tell me it (or the percentile).

Last month, according to my app, he was in the 87th percentile for weight and now the app says he’s in the 89th percentile.  So, he gained pretty consistently – even though the doctor’s percentile chart is different from this :)
Last month, according to my app he was in the 45th percentile for height and it has him at the 40th now.  So, he didn’t gain quite as much… I’m not sure if he’s on the brink of growing in length or what…

Laughing at his dada

Diaper Size: We’re moving him up to size 4s during the day and size 5s overnight.  Unfortunately, though, there seems to be a shortage on size 4s! They’re hard to find right now on Amazon where I normally get them.  So, I’m just looking regularly.

Clothing Size: He’s mainly wearing 12-18m and 18m things now.  I have had to pack up any one piece 12-18m things.  His 12m pants are officially all too small, but his 18m ones are still too long… So I’m using sweatpants that get tighter at the ankles, and rolling the bottoms of the others :) He’s mainly wearing size 5 shoes now.

He's grown SO MUCH this year!

Nicknames: We mainly call him Caleb :) He gets other things all the time, but nothing really consistently.

Health: His top teeth have come through a lot more and he has seemed to be teething throughout this month. This week (officially into his 13 month), I found his 7th tooth. It looks like it’s been through for a while, so I assume he had it by his birthday :) It’s really hard to check for teeth because he just bites me ;) Haha

Love his funny faces <3

Sleep: Caleb, like most kids I’m sure, has hiccups in his sleeping schedule… But, for the most part, he has been sleeping great! He goes to bed around 7:30-7:45… He nurses either once or twice overnight (11-12 ish and then 5-6 ish, but sometimes he skips one of those or just gets up in the middle).  Then he sleeps until 7:30 or 8! He’s still napping twice a day – usually 1.5 hours in the morning and 1.5 again in the afternoon!

Diet: Caleb’s food schedule is pretty similar to the last couple of months.  He’s nursing about 3 times/day.  He’s just started to skip his early afternoon nursing (This week, month 13, that has continued.  So I think that confirms it.)  Since skipping that afternoon one, he basically fits in 3 feedings at night (his bed time, my bed time, and early morning).  Once in a while he’ll skip one of those, which sure is nice! He’s eating solids really well – breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack.  He sometimes gets a morning snack, especially if he skips an overnight feeding and gets breakfast earlier.

Loves: He still loves jumping!
He loves bath time! He likes playing with his toys and splashing
He loves eating :) Not that he cares what he’s eating – he just likes to eat in general
He loves books! He gets them off of his shelf ALL THE TIME! He flips the pages all on his own.
He loves walking! It’s been fun to see him exploring more!

Dislikes: He doesn’t like being left alone, but now he can slowly follow me :)
He doesn’t like keeping his shoes or socks on his feet! He takes them off as soon as he can
He still doesn’t like having his face and hands wiped after a meal… If only I could convince him that it was as fun as a bath :)

Milestones: Teeth #7 came through I think – Although I didn’t find it until this week :)
He still is so fast on the stairs and he still loves his baths in the big tub!
Caleb started standing on his own and walking! <3 Such a big boy! He’s been taking steps for a few weeks now, and he’s getting better and better every day!
His babbling and sounds are changing… He has said Mama, Dada, and hi – but he doesn’t say any of them super consistently yet.  He sounded like he said hello to his doctor at his 1 year check up ;)
Caleb waves hi a lot now – to cars driving by, to people on tv, to people that we see at the store, etc… and he gives high fives!

Baby Gear Love: Caleb still loves his walker toy and table toy. He also loves a white kitchen spoon that I gave him to play with one day ;)
He loves books!

 Looking at a butterfly book!

Random Thoughts: It’s really hard to believe that Caleb is 1 already! On the one hand, I can’t believe his birthday is already here and he’s walking around and everything… On the other hand, it’s really hard to believe that he’s only been here a year.  He has totally changed our lives and our hearts.  I never knew the achy love a mother feels… He is crazy and a handful and we love him for it!

All ready for a Bills game :)

Mama Update: I’ve been maintaining at 15 pounds under my pre-pregnancy weight.  Apparently I have to be very on top of diet/exercise to be at the 17 pounds under ;) Either way, though, I’m thrilled that I’m able to maintain 15 pounds under where I was before.  I’m the smallest I’ve been as an adult, even smaller than when Pete & I started dating! That’s so crazy to me… Haha!
I keep having to pack up things that are too big… It’s a great problem, but simultaneously a frustrating problem.
It was nice to have my work hours even back out after the crazy busyness last month! :)

Eleven Months!

Caleb is 11 months old!

Weight: 23.5 lbs. He gained almost a pound this month! This is the 87th percentile.

Length: 29. 5 inches.  He grew ¼ of an inch… This is the 56th percentile.

Head Circumference: Didn’t get this checked.

We went in for a weight check, so we didn’t actually get his percentiles.  An app that I use listed these percentiles, but I’m not sure if it’s right or not :)

He's grown so much! It's hard to believe...

Diaper Size: He’s still in size 3 and he is still wearing size 4 diapers overnight.  We decided to stick it out and leave him in size 3s during the day for now.  We just ordered another box of 3s, but I think this will be our last box of them!

Clothing Size: I’m having to start packing up his 12 month stuff.  He’s mainly wearing 12-18m and 18m things now.  He’s not quite tall enough for the 18m pants, so I’m trying to make 12m ones last as long as I can :) He’s still able to wear size 4 shoes, but barely! I pulled out a pair of size 5 ones this week and they seem to fit him much better.

I can't even stand how cute he is!
How did we get so blessed to have this boy in our family?! <3

Nicknames: We mainly call him Caleb… I sometimes call him Baby or Caleb Cub… We also sometimes call him things like Monster and Tank :)

Health: Caleb has continued to teethe this month… His two upper lateral incisors are all the way through and his top middle teeth and through now, too! We’ve had a bit of a break during the last week… He’s been sleeping better and in a better mood. (The last 2 days, officially into his 12 month, he seems to have started teething again! The poor kid :( It feels like it’s never-ending!)

You can see some of his top teeth here!
He has just started doing this funny smile
where he squints his eyes all the way shut
(I realize it looks like he might be crying, but he's just a little sick with red eyes :/)
It's so funny and reminded me of this picture of me!

Sleep: Bed time and nap time are going SO MUCH BETTER these days! We’ve continued to put Caleb down awake and he’s having a much better time than he was a month ago :) Phew! He will often cry and we’ll go in around 10 minutes to lay him back down, but then that’s it.  Actually, the last week or so, has been even better than that! He’s basically just putting himself to sleep (maybe with a couple minutes of fussing), often not needing us to go back in at all.

Just a silly face I wanted to include ;)

Diet: Caleb’s food schedule is pretty similar to last month.  He’s nursing 3-4 times/day.  He occasionally skips one overnight feeding.  And on other occasions he skips his early afternoon feeding.  Caleb sometimes eats dinner earlier and then will have a snack at bed time (before nursing)… There’s not a time during the day that it works well for a snack yet. I think he’ll eventually eat breakfast as soon as he gets up and then will need a snack sometime mid-morning, but right now he doesn’t eat breakfast until he’s been up for like an hour and a half. (The last couple days, officially in month 12 like I said earlier, he hasn’t been eating well – I think it’s all related to teeth coming in, but I can’t actually see any spots yet.)

He loves his food!

Loves: He loves jumping! He just jumps and jumps in his bed… It’s cute, but sometimes it distracts him from going to sleep ;)
He loves splashing in the bath! He makes big waves in the big tub… then he’ll crawl to the other end and splash some more!
He loves sneaking up the stairs :) He’ll round the corner from the living room into the dining room and you can hear the excitement in his babbling when he realizes the stairs aren’t blocked off haha :)
He loves watching cars – whether outside, or from the window… It’s a fun way to occupy time with him
He loves being outside in general… He hasn’t liked the grass before, but it seems like he’s starting to get used to it! Finally :)

This is from when he wouldn't get off of the blanket because of the grass!

Now he's venturing off of the blanket :)
Pete got this great shot last weekend!

Caleb loves swinging too!

Dislikes: He doesn’t like sleeping in ;)  I realize he might sleep in compared to other kids, but it’s still an adjustment for us! He’s usually waking up between 6:45 and 7:30 – we try to leave him in there at least until 7.
He doesn’t like teething! It’s been a welcome relief during the last week, without teeth bothering him.  Unfortunately, it looks like we’re headed back into it for another round now!
He also doesn’t like having his face wiped off after meals and when we try to check his mouth for teeth :)

I think C looks sooo cute here!
But you can also see how he's looking kinda sick from this round of teething :/
Poor baby! <3

Milestones: Teeth #s 3, 4, 5, and 6 are all through now! 3 and 4 were just starting to break through at 10 months, so this was a productive month!
He’s continued to babble a lot and to walk along all of our furniture, easily transitioning from one piece of furniture to another, etc.  He’s still not really standing or walking on his own yet.  I wonder if that will change by his birthday??
He started climbing the stairs! And he’s fast at it!!
He started bathing in the big tub.  He loves being able to crawl around and play with toys in there.  He also loves turning on the water and standing up using the side of the tub.  He usually ends up letting go of the side and just standing there for a while before he falls on his bum.  That’s when he stands on his own the best – interestingly, a month or two ago, that’s where he was pulling up to stand the best.  So, I suspect we’ll see him standing on his own more now that he’s started to do that.
He left the country! We went to Canada last weekend for a day trip to Ikea for our anniversary.  Caleb came with us and did pretty well :)
He moved to his big boy car seat! He seems to like it more, but maybe that’s all in my head? :)
Caleb started waving this month! It’s not an all the time thing, but he definitely does it some now (and at the right time - for weeks he's been waving randomly during the day, but not at the "right" time)… I’ve been waiting ages for him to wave!

He has also mastered his Chris Farley look while taking selfies ;)

Baby Gear Love: Caleb still loves his walker toy and table toy. He also loves a white kitchen spoon that I gave him to play with one day ;)
I’m loving Koala Kids Prewalker Training Shoes. They have Velcro straps and soft soles and they work really great for him as he’s learning to walk. I also appreciate how easy they are to get on his feet :) He’s outgrowing his 4s – specifically his left foot is ;) But I have size 5 ones in a different color, thankfully!

You can sort of see those shoes here :)

Random Thoughts: Caleb has definitely improved with sleeping; we both feel hopeful that he’ll continue to improve in this area! Thank God :)
I can’t can’t can’t believe that Caleb will be 1 in less than a month! So bittersweet <3 How did that go by so quickly?!

Mama Update: I’m now pretty consistently between 15 and 17 pounds under my pre-pregnancy weight; so, I lost 2-4 pounds again this month! I held strong last week at 17 pounds under, but this week I seem to be fluctuating more…17 pounds under (where I was last week), means I’m 50 pounds under where I ended my pregnancy with Caleb!! That’s pretty fun and exciting to me :) I’m working on toning and strengthening now.
I’ve hit up some good sales lately (Peebles and Schoola!) and I’ve been able to replace some of the things that I’ve had to pack away that were too big.  It’s nice to have things that fit again!

I love this picture of me and my boy <3

I had a busy month with work because I was on a committee for a special service at church.  I did lots of extra hours and I’m so grateful that Pete was able to be home with Caleb during those hours.

Ten Months!

Caleb is 10 months old!

Weight: 22lbs, 10 oz. This is the 85th percentile.

Length: 29.25 inches.  This is the 66th percentile.

Head Circumference: Didn’t get this checked.

We went in for a weight check, so we didn’t actually get his percentiles.  An app that I use listed these percentiles, but I’m not sure if it’s right or not :)

I love my smiley guy!

Diaper Size: He’s still in size 3 and he is still wearing size 4 diapers overnight.  We decided to stick it out and leave him in size 3s during the day for now.

Clothing Size: He’s wearing 12 month and 12-18 month things.  He’s also in 18m pajamas, but PJs (esp the 2 piece kinds) have always seemed to run small on him.  He’s still in size 4 shoes :)

Nicknames: Curious Caleb, Baby, and Caleb Cub

Health: Caleb has been teething all month… I just found this week that his two upper lateral incisors are almost though (I looked up what they’re called!).  In fact, this weekend it feels like one of them is starting to poke through.  I’m eager for them to get through just so he can have a bit of a break.

He's the best!

Sleep: It’s been a rough time with sleep lately… Through most of July, Caleb’s sleep was messy and relied heavily on being rocked to sleep and being rocked back to sleep.  Seeing that he has two teeth that are both about to break through, I’m sure that’s been adding to his trouble sleeping.  However, I mainly think the problem is that he learned how to stand and jump in his crib and just couldn’t get himself to settle back down.  So, we’ve started working on that this week.
We’re doing some kind of version of cry it out (we’ve only been doing it for like half a week) – I don’t know if it follows whatever the defined rules of CIO are, but we’re kind of making our own system, learning as we go.  We’re trying to be consistent with his sleep routine, at both bed time and nap time.  We make sure his diaper is clean, he’s had teething tables (nap time) or ibuprofen (bed time), read him a story (Goodnight Moon) and pray for him.  Then, we leave him in his crib to go to sleep and, if he’s crying, we check on him every 10-15 minutes.  We lay him back down and pat his bum/rub his back… Then we just stand there for a bit so he knows he’s not alone as he goes back to sleep.  It’s not perfect and some nights are harder than others, but we’ve definitely made progress.  It took around 1.5 hours his first night, but we’ve had some naps/bed times take less than 15 minutes… We’ll see what I’m saying a month from now ;) (I wrote this all out more detailed so I have it to look back on!)

This is generally how I find Caleb in his crib... Standing and jumping!

Diet: Caleb is down to nursing about 4 times a day.  These days, he typically nurses once overnight, once in the early morning (but he sometimes goes back to sleep for a while after this, so it can feel like twice overnight), once in the early afternoon, and then at bed time.  Once in a while he adds in another overnight one, so it becomes 5/day… He is consistently eating 3 meals/day. He usually eats a whole banana and some Cheerios for breakfast, Greek yogurt and some applesauce or baby food mixed in for lunch, and then usually something we’re eating/leftovers for dinner.  I think soon he’s going to start adjusting his meal times and adding in a snack…. We’ll see!

He's had smiley eyes since he was a newborn <3

Loves: He loves cruising! He cruises along our furniture with no hesitation now!
He loves assisted walking! We’re borrowing a push toy from friends and he walks with that easily.  He’ll be walking in no time!
He loves giving hugs and kisses! He just started giving hugs this month, and I just cherish them.
He walks all over the place with this little toy!

Dislikes: He doesn’t like being the only one not eating.  This is still true… He’s a social eater ;)
He doesn’t like having things taken away – food, the remote, DVDs, the DVD player, my phone, etc…
He doesn’t like being left alone… If he’s playing on the floor and I walk out of the room, he crawls after me and if he’s left alone in his crib, he just screams :)

He's a wiggler!

Milestones: He is getting his third and fourth teeth!
He’s cruising along furniture and walking with a walker toy.  It’s crazy and awesome!  He’s really innovative and tends to take the more difficult route, which makes me laugh :)
His babbling has changed – saying new sounds, and talking more in general.

Baby Gear Love: We got the Trend Lab Fleece CribWrap Rail Covers.  They’re great!
Caleb loves the VTech Sit-to-Stand Learning Walker! We’re borrowing it from a friend and I’m grateful for saving money, but still giving C the opportunity to play and learn :)

We’re also borrowing the Fisher-Price® Laugh N Learn Puppy & Friends Learning Table from the same friends.  Caleb loves this! He opens and closes the laptop part over and over :) He uses this table as a walker, pushing it all over the kitchen!

Random Thoughts: It’s amazing to me how much has changed for Caleb in the last 4-6 weeks.  He’s so so active and he’s such a little explorer.  I love it!  And I can’t imagine what else will have changed in the next few weeks – Walking? Talking?
I’m grateful that we’re finally seeing some progress with his sleep issues – we’ve had an exhausting few weeks… I’ve loved the times rocking him to sleep, but I have not loved having those moments 5-10 times in the night ;)
He stood up using the arm of the chair and then he heard Pete come in...
You can see in the 3rd picture how much he loves Pete!

Mama Update: I’m around 15 pounds under my pre-pregnancy weight! I’m pretty consistently somewhere in the 13-15 pound range.  Last month I was in the 11-13 pound range, so I’m down another 2-4 pounds!  I’d like to lose a couple more pounds, but I would REALLY like to strengthen my muscles at this point…
I had a rough couple of weeks in July – I started having neck/shoulder/back problems (similar to what I was dealing with in 2012-2013).  Thankfully those have cleared up!  I’m getting back to the Y now and I will probably venture back into doing some weights for the first time in a few weeks (I had stopped because of this neck issue).
I’ve had to pack up SO MANY CLOTHES that are too big.  I’m thrilled for this progress, but having a really hard time losing all of my favorite clothes.  My pre-pregnancy weight/size was where I’ve pretty much always settled in terms of size as an adult.  So, the bulk of my wardrobe is that size and I never thought I’d be this much smaller, especially 10 months out from having a baby!

Nine Months!

Caleb is 9 months old!
He's all ready to go to the pool for the first time!

I couldn't pick between these two pictures!
The first one follows my normal layout,
but his face in the second one is too good to pass up!

Weight: 22lbs! This is the 72nd percentile.

Length: 29 inches.  This is the 74th percentile. He’s pretty proportional! He went through a growth spurt last week.  I’m not sure if he actually grew that much or if his previous measurements had been wrong.  We did have a different nurse this time who seemed more patient about getting him to stretch out.

Head Circumference: His head circumference was 18.5”. This is the 90th percentile!  So much for being proportional ;)

I wish I didn't cut his foot off in this one... He has gotten so much bigger!
I think Pete was actually holding it stretched out because he wouldn't lay still! Haha :)

Diaper Size: He’s still in size 3!  He is wearing size 4 diapers overnight and those have made a great difference.  After this last growth spurt, his size 3 diapers got much tighter/shorter on him.  I’m not sure if we’ll bump up to size 4 in general soon or if we’ll wait it out.

Clothing Size: He’s wearing 12 month things now.  Like always there are random other sizes that fit him, but I’ve pulled out just about all of his 9 month things to be packed up now.  He’s also wearing size 4 shoes.  I have some size 3 ones that still fit him, but his feet grew a lot in this growth spurt! Such a funny thing :)

Nicknames: Curious Caleb, Baby, and Caleb Cub

Health: Caleb got his 2nd tooth.  He kind of always seems to be teething now, but I don’t see any spot that’s close yet.

You can see his two little "teefers" here!

Sleep: Caleb’s sleep has gotten pretty messy lately :( He isn’t putting himself to sleep anymore.  I have to rock him to sleep at bed time, but he often needs to be rocked back to sleep in the night.  When he wakes up, he just sits up in his crib or pulls up to stand and screams until we come in.  It’s like he doesn’t remember how to lay himself back down, etc.  Such a hard stage!

Diet: Caleb still nurses well – albeit distracted, but he eats :) He is continuing to do well with eating tablefood.  I’ve started adding in a 3rd meal now.  It’s not quite consistent yet, but we’re getting there.  I’m starting to venture out with other foods for him – he likes pastas and baked beans! :) I’m thinking of adding in Greek yogurt for him too.  I think that will help me with having food options for him during the day.

It's so hard to believe this is the same kid!
My goodness, where did my baby go?! <3

Loves: He loves standing!
He loves crawling!
He loves eating! He actually isn’t super vocal about eating, but he is vocal about not eating – see below :)
He loves Mommy! With his nighttime crankiness, he only wants me to rock him to sleep – Pete sure tries because he wants me to get some sleep too, but Caleb won’t settle without me.  This is a really hard stage and it’s exhausting, but it’s also amazing to see the way he calms down when I come in.

Dislikes: He doesn’t like being the only one not eating.  If someone has food, he will crawl over to mooch from them or he will yell until we give him food! I’m glad he’s a good eater, but this really makes it interesting when I’m trying to eat at a time that isn’t his meal time, etc.
He doesn’t like barriers!  Now that he’s mobile, we’re starting to make different barriers to stop him from getting places and he is not a fan at all!
He doesn’t like sitting still – He sure is thrilled to finally be able to be on the move :)
He doesn’t like grass.  He has cried every time we’ve put him in the grass!

See! He doesn't like sitting still :)
This was what he did the majority of the time while I tried to get his pictures!

Milestones: He got his second tooth!
He’s crawling now! He’s in a much better mood lately because he can actually get wherever he’s wanting to go.  It’s fun to watch him try to crawl after us when we leave the room :)
He can pull up to stand.  Once he figured out how to do it, he started doing it all the time!
Notice how happy he is to be standing! :)

Baby Gear Love: We don’t have this yet, but we’re going to get the Trend Lab Fleece CribWrap Rail Covers.  Now that he can stand, Caleb has started gnawing on his crib.  We probably should’ve gotten this put on already, but I wasn’t that proactive! So, there are a few bite marks :)
We will order these covers for the front (long side) and the two short sides.
Maybe by 10 months, I'll know if I need one for the other long side too :)

Random Thoughts: It’s fun watching Caleb learn and explore and grow!  We’ve noticed him recognizing people in irregular places – like he’ll recognize my mom at the Y now.
I love watching Caleb discover new places he can stand.  It’s also so much fun to see him notice a toy across the room and actually be able to get to it (and quickly!), rather than just crying because he wants something but he’s stuck.  This is a really fun age!

I couldn't resist including this silly picture of Pete tickling Caleb!

Mama Update: I’m not totally sure where I landed this month… I think I’m similar to last month? I’ve been up and down a little.  I hit my goal weight a couple of times (which is 2 pounds lower than where I was last month), but I’m not yet maintaining there.  I did get out the smaller clothes and I’ve been wearing those and packing up my too big things.  It’s such a bittersweet thing… Obviously it’s sweet to be able to wear clothes that I haven’t fit into in 5 years, but it’s hard to pack up my favorite things too! :)

It's crazy to me to see this comparison!

I can't believe my boy has been in my arms for 9 months already!
